Tennoji Zoo, which is located in the west part of Tennoji Park, was opened in January of 1915 and is the third oldest zoo in Japan. Being also one of the largest, Tennoji Zoo is always crowded with families and is also favored for school and kindergarten excursions. Covering approximately 11ha, the zoo is home to nearly 1000 animals of 200 different species. The zoo offers a number of attractions such as snack time when the visitors can see the animals being fed and an opportunity to feed animals at the petting area, so it is a space inside a city which nevertheless allows people to get a feeling of closeness to the Nature and animals.
